Mr. Xu Beihong

Xu Beihong was a leading Chinese artist and art educator, known as the “Father of Modern Chinese Painting.” He was the first president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and chairman of the China Artists Association. His works, including Tian Heng and His Five Hundred Followers 《田横五百士》, Waiting for the Deliverer 《徯我后》, and The Foolish Old Man Removes the Mountains 《愚公移山》, laid the foundation for modern Chinese oil painting with their unique blend of Chinese style and Western technique.

He believed art should reflect real life and combined Chinese traditions with Western methods to create a new, influential style. Xu Beihong not only produced many masterpieces but also trained a generation of outstanding artists, shaping China’s modern art education system. His efforts promoted Chinese art worldwide, leaving a lasting legacy.

The Spirit of Xu Beihong

Xu Beihong’s life was deeply intertwined with the fate and rise of his nation. He embodied great patriotism, selfless dedication, relentless artistic innovation, and a keen eye for nurturing talent. Professor Xu Qingping, son of Xu Beihong and
Director of the Xu Beihong Memorial Hall,
congratulated the center on its launch.

The Shenzhen Xu Beihong Culture and Art Center was founded in 2022 with authorization from Professor Xu Qingping, son of Xu Beihong. As a non-profit branch of the Beijing Xu Beihong Art Committee, it operates under Shenzhen’s cultural authorities.

The center encourages the public to learn from masterpieces and embody the values conveyed through inspirational art. By combining aesthetic education with patriotic education, it promotes Xu Beihong’s artistic spirit in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area, inspiring the younger generation. It also brings art into communities, schools, and public spaces, helping build Shenzhen as a creative city and strengthening cultural confidence.

Objective:

To carry forward the spirit of Xu Beihong, promote Chinese aesthetic education, and foster cultural confidence.

Vision:

Through the practice of “learning from master classics and emulating master virtues,” we aim to revitalize Xu Beihong’s spirit in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, establishing the center as the region’s most influential platform for art education and cultural exchange. We strive to contribute to the development of aesthetic education in the new era.

Mission:

Artistic Heritage & Innovation
Promote Xu Beihong’s artistic legacy, drive innovative renewal of traditional arts, and create culturally significant works with contemporary relevance.
