“The Galloping Era” — Call for National Art and Callwriting Works on the Theme of the Horse

To promote the artistic spirit of Mr. Xu Beihong and advance the development of contemporary Chinese art and calligraphy creation, the Shenzhen Xu Beihong Culture and Art Center hereby invites calligraphers, painters, and art practitioners nationwide to submit works centered on the theme of the “Horse.” The selected works will be featured in a thematic exhibition titled “Galloping Steed,” scheduled to be held in Shenzhen in 2026. We sincerely welcome enthusiastic submissions from creators across the country.

A. Submission Requirements

  1. Theme: Works should center on the subject of the horse, reflecting the spirit of the times and artistic innovation.
  2. Categories: Chinese painting and oil painting.
  3. Specifications: All submissions must be original works, with no restrictions on form, style, or dimensions.

B. Submission Guidelines

  1. Submission Period: From now until March 10, 2026.
  2. Submission Method: Please fill out and submit the following materials or send them to the designated email address: 3518844836@qq.com
  3. Required Materials:
    · Hi-Res images of the artworks (10–15 pieces, each no less than 2MB, with details including title, dimensions, and year of creation)
    · Brief artistic biography (within 300 words)
    · One recent photo or work photo of the author
    · Contact information (name, address, phone number)
  4. Review and Exhibition:
    · All submitted works will be evaluated, and outstanding pieces will be promoted through the official platforms of the Xu Beihong Culture and Art Center on an ongoing basis.
    · Selected outstanding artists will be appointed as “Distinguished Painters of the Xu Beihong Culture and Art Center” and invited to participate in the “Galloping Horse” thematic exhibition in 2025.
  5. Exhibition and Collection: Selected works will be exhibited in Shenzhen (with potential nationwide touring exhibitions depending on circumstances) and promoted to the public for art collection engagement and opportunities.

C. Related Rights and Obligations

  • All submitted works must be original creations of the author. Any copyright disputes arising from the works shall be solely borne by the submitter.
  • The organizer reserves the right to use the submitted works for non-commercial purposes, including but not limited to exhibitions, publicity, and publications.
  • In the event that a work is selected for collection, relevant matters shall be negotiated separately between the organizer and the author.

The Spirit of Xu Beihong

Xu Beihong’s life was deeply intertwined with the fate and rise of his nation. He embodied great patriotism, selfless dedication, relentless artistic innovation, and a keen eye for nurturing talent. His legacy reflects an unwavering spirit of independence, moral integrity, and enduring inspiration. (Engraved in the central hall of the Beijing Xu Beihong Memorial Hall)

Mr. Xu Beihong

Xu Beihong was a leading Chinese artist and art educator, known as the “Father of Modern Chinese Painting.” He was the first president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and chairman of the China Artists Association. His works, including Tian Heng and His Five Hundred Followers 《田横五百士》Waiting for the Deliverer 《徯我后》, and The Foolish Old Man Removes the Mountains 《愚公移山》, laid the foundation for modern Chinese oil painting with their unique blend of Chinese style and Western technique.

He believed art should reflect real life and combined Chinese traditions with Western methods to create a new, influential style. Xu Beihong not only produced many masterpieces but also trained a generation of outstanding artists, shaping China’s modern art education system. His efforts promoted Chinese art worldwide, leaving a lasting legacy.
