The 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan
Special Report Held at Youth Entrepreneurship & Xu Beihong Cultural Art Space

In comprehensive implementation of the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and thorough execution of the thematic education “Strengthening Foundations by Forging Hearts and Souls, Uniting and Striving Forward on the New Journey,” a special event marking the fourth anniversary of the 728 Reading Club, combined with a history sharing session on the War of Resistance, was successfully held on the afternoon of July 27, 2025. The event was jointly organized by the Shenzhen Theoretical Research Committee, Cultural and Arts Committee, and Publishing and Media Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD). It took place at the Xu Beihong Cultural and Art Space in Longhua District’s Youth Innovation Park. The event was attended by over 30 member representatives of the Shenzhen CAPD, along with General Manager Meng from the Youth Innovation Park Group and representatives of military veterans, all participating in this highly educational activity.
The event, aligned with the significant milestone of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan, featured a special keynote report by Wu Lei, Standing Committee Member of the Futian District Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Vice Chair of the Futian District Primary Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD). Under the theme “One War, Two Paths of Youth: An Unforgettable Legacy 80 Years Later,” Mr. Wu delivered an insightful presentation. Through a systematic analysis of extensive historical materials, he elucidated how intellectuals and young people during the war period, despite choosing different paths, ultimately converged in their patriotic endeavors. His report sparked profound reflection and lively discussion among the attendees.
Timed with the 98th anniversary of the Army Day, the 728 Reading Club specially procured a collection of historical, military, and cultural books, which were presented to the veteran representatives attending the event.
In his address, Duan Jianren, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Publishing and Media Committee of CAPD, emphasized the importance of fully leveraging CAPD’s strengths in the education and culture sectors. He stressed the commitment to educating people through history and cultivating values through culture, thereby continuously consolidating the common ideological and political foundation for multi-party cooperation.
The event innovatively adopted an organizational model of “guidance from special committees, coordination from grassroots organizations, and execution by social associations.” It was attended by leaders including Xie Xiufang, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Theoretical Research Committee of CAPD, and Xiao Yongge and Zhang Jingying, Deputy Directors of the Publishing and Media Committee. The event was presided over by Zhang Wenchang, Deputy Director of the Cultural and Arts Committee.

Mr. Xu Beihong

Xu Beihong was a leading Chinese artist and art educator, known as the “Father of Modern Chinese Painting.” He was the first president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and chairman of the China Artists Association. His works, including Tian Heng and His Five Hundred Followers 《田横五百士》Waiting for the Deliverer 《徯我后》, and The Foolish Old Man Removes the Mountains 《愚公移山》, laid the foundation for modern Chinese oil painting with their unique blend of Chinese style and Western technique.

He believed art should reflect real life and combined Chinese traditions with Western methods to create a new, influential style. Xu Beihong not only produced many masterpieces but also trained a generation of outstanding artists, shaping China’s modern art education system. His efforts promoted Chinese art worldwide, leaving a lasting legacy.
